Een performatieve confrontatie tussen verlangen en afwijzing.

In Tweespalt nodig ik als performer en queerpersoon de maatschappij uit voor een symbolisch diner. De tafel is gedekt, de zelfgemaakte rijstpap staat klaar. Maar de stoel tegenover blijft leeg. De maatschappij daagt niet op.

Wat begint als een stil wachten, mondt uit in een daad van zelfbeschikking. De kunstenaar staat op, neemt de pot en loopt door het publiek – lepel voor lepel voedend aan diegene die er wel voor openstaan.

Deze performance is een reflectie op wat het betekent om te willen worden aanvaard, maar systematisch genegeerd te worden. Over de pijn van afwijzing, maar ook over de kracht van initiatief.

A performative confrontation between desire and rejection.

In Division, as a performer and queer individual, I invite society to a symbolic dinner. The table is set, the homemade rice pudding is ready. But the chair across from me remains empty. Society fails to show up.

What begins as a silent wait unfolds into an act of self-determination. The artist rises, takes the pot, and walks through the audience – feeding, spoon by spoon, those who are open to receive it.

This performance is a reflection on what it means to long for acceptance, yet be systematically ignored. About the pain of rejection, but also the power of taking initiative.
